new album
Hello ladies! I have a situation. I have always only used creative memories albums. I have used other types of materials etc. , but the albums have always been creative memories. I am interested in trying another type of album and now I am  confused. I went to Archivers and there were so many different types to chose from. Can you all recommend your favorites? Not just brands but the types, post bound, top or side loading etc? I want to make sure I can add or remove pages and I'm not looking to have to trim paper anymore (thats why I think I'm done with CM books). Thank you so much!

Creative Memories open house 12/10/05
cross-post: chicago_crops, scrapbookers, chitown_mamas, illinois_mommy

I will be holding a Creative Memories open house at my home next Saturday, 12/10/05. This is a perfect opportunity to get some holiday shopping done for that scrapbooker on your list (or for yourself!). I am offering discounts of 10-25% off all our product. In-stock items will be discounted heavily, so it is best to be early for this event!

The open house will run promptly from 2pm-5pm.

We will be featuring various demonstrations throughout the event, suitable to both beginners and advanced scrapbookers.

Finally, there will be a raffle for valuable prizes - each raffle ticket will be $1, but everyone who pre-registers for the open house via e-mail or telephone will receive one free entry!

I hope to see you all there. Please pass this message along to anyone you know who may be interested in attending - the more, the merrier!

See the calendar of events on my website, http://www.scrapbookchicago.com, for location information - or feel free to contact me! scrapbookingcook at yahoo dot com

my scrapbooking area
crosspost to: scrapbookers, chicago_crops

Hi everyone! I am in the process of building/organizing my scrapbooking area. It will be a corner of my laundry room. I'm posting pictures of my early progress; if anyone has ideas about how to develop this (obviously very raw) space, feel free to share them!

South Side (Lansing) Scrapbooking Events
Good afternoon!

I just wanted to touch base and let everyone know that
I'm planning a couple of scrapbooking events for
September. (I will be planning a few for the coming
months as well, but those dates aren't set just
yet...I will keep everyone posted though!)

On September 10 (this coming Saturday) I will be
hosting a scrapbooking crop at my home starting at
1pm. There is no registration fee for this event, I
just want everyone to come over and scrapbook if
you're available!

On Sunday, September 25, I will be holding a Creative
Memories "Get Together" at my home (beginning at 2pm).
This event has no registration fee. This is a brand
new type of Creative Memories party and will be my
first one - I think it's going to be a lot of fun!

I do hope everyone is able to make it to at least one
of the events! Please let me know if you will be

Feel free to bring a friend to either of them!

EDIT: That crop would be scheduled for September 17, NOT the 10th, which was yesterday. My bad. Sorry! :)

So I was driving down the street on Sat morning...
...and I saw a woman walking down the street by the convention center. There were some other folks walking too so I just figured there was a convention in town.

But my eye was caught by the lovely green/lavender bag the woman had on her shoulder. Even from across the stree i could see that was a K&Co logo!!!!

So I started craning my neck to see if there was a sign to tell what convention it was.

CHA!! CHA!!! in my town!! And I missed it!!!

I am a huge fan of layering. this layering technique with scraps and even photos sounds awesome! Wish I could post the sample pages bc they are really cute and also interesting. I might try this with my scraps tonight.

Clean Line Scrapbooking
I personally think that maybe ONE accent or technique keeps a LO from looking too plain. But I am not a fan of the "Let's throw everything but th ekitchen sink at theis page" style I see so often now.

Sculpt your own accents from polymer clay
Interesting article with some cool ideas.

Of course I got enough to do already and even with premade accents I will never be caught up but...

vintage scrapbook
My mother shared something with me today - apparently she's seen this album before and has been trying to get it from my father's sister (who is not very sentimental and probably wouldn't save it) for months so we can make preserved copies of it. My aunt finally sent it to us and this is the first time I'm seeing it.

It is an album that my grandfather (my father's father) made...we don't really know how old it is, but my grandpa died in 1982, and I'm sure he made this when he was much, much younger...most of the pictures seem to be from the 1920's.

Finding things like this reminds me of why I scrapbook...because memories like this are precious to me, and because someday I hope my grandchildren will be going through my books to look at their aunts and uncles and old family friends and sharing all of the memories of a life long past; because I personally treasure knowing where I come from, and I want those memories to be available to any of my family members who feel the same.

His intro page has a sticker of the two-faced Janus (I didn't scan that, but he even has a sticker in his book!) and it reads: Dedicated to Janus from whom we get the name of January. With two faces he was able to look forward and backward. We can look backward but the future is almost a total blank. Herein contained are snapshots dating back to the middle of summer 1924. If this be the past, what be the future!?!?

I didn't scan all the pics, but here are a couple highlights:

this was toward the front...I found it interesting that he varied the layout of the pics AND did some cropping...I think he might have some of the years wrong though?
and they say scrapbooking is a NEW art!!Collapse )

You Know You're Addicted to Scrapbooking When...

* all of the Internet addresses under your favorite files are scrapping sites

* after you tell your husband where you'd like to go on your vacation, he asks: "Why, is there a scrapbook store there?"

* the box that holds your paper is too heavy for you to lift.

A while back I was at a crop and this woman had a book of what I would call 'titles' for pages. They were organized by topic. For example the topic would be Bath time and then there would be a list of phrases like "love the tub" and "tub of fun" etc. Does anyone own a book like this? Any recommendations for purchases? Thanks!

In honor of helloheather's 2nd anniversary....here are some poems, quotes and page toppers about Anniversaries. Actually a lot of these would be usable on general wedding or love pages as well, which is why I am keeping this reference.
